Dear Royal Clubbers,
Unbelievably November has dawned but with October still fresh in our memories, we wanted to share our five favourite posts of the month just gone…
1. The Royal Archive
We know how much you love royal history and traditions, so October saw us launch a brand new monthly newsletter, The Royal Archive. We just had to include its inaugural edition in this list, with club writer Millie marking the King and Queen’s tour of Australia by focusing on historical royal trips of the Commonwealth country. It’s a corker and you just must read what happened when Queen Victoria's fourth child, Prince Alfred, embarked on an ill-fated trip Down Under in 1867…
2. What it’s really like to cover a royal tour
While October’s royal tour did have its moments of drama (an angry parliamentary protestor and an expectorating alpaca spring to mind), it went swimmingly well compared to that 1867 trip. Accompanying the King and Queen on their travels was Royal Club writer Tracy, who sent this wonderful account of what happens behind the scenes on royal tours.
3. Watch: Live from the Australia tour
While Tracy was in Australia she sent a series of video diaries, and this one was our favourite. It covers everything from the aforementioned alpaca to a ‘smoking hot’ reception for the King and Queen in Australian capital, Canberra.
4. Watch: Catherine’s moving return
While it was lovely to see Catherine carrying out her duties for the first time since finishing chemotherapy, the occasion was a sombre one as she was in the north of England to commemorate the victims of July’s dreadful attack in Southport. It was a truly touching engagement, some of which took place behind closed doors.
5. Behind the scenes with Eugenie
It’s not every day you get to interview a princess, but Emily Nash did just this when she spoke to the delightful Princess Eugenie. In this post, she reveals what happened and provides some lovely details both on how she felt preparing to interview such an illustrious royal, and on Eugenie’s kind and passionate personality.
