Hello, Royal Clubbers, it’s Millie here. We recently reflected on a rare display of affection between Prince William and Queen Camilla during the state visit of the French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte.
Shortly after the president's arrival, the heir to the throne could be seen sweetly kissing the Queen on the cheek. Dressed in a smart navy suit, King Charles's eldest son was pictured deftly dipping his head to avoid knocking Camilla's fabulous emerald-green hat designed by Philip Treacy.
Beyond the usual surprise I felt at two royals showing a public display of affection, I was also curious to see it occur between William and Camilla. In our daily newsletter we asked how you felt about the assumed closeness between the Prince of Wales and the Queen. While 66 per cent of you were happy to see the pair had grown closer in recent years, 22 per cent of you were not.
Of course, extramarital affairs create many complications, and there may be confusing feelings for Prince William towards his stepmother. Her involvement in his parents’ marriage and its subsequent decline won’t ever be forgotten by him or his brother.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry wrote: “I had complex feelings about gaining a step parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar. In a funny way I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she’d be less dangerous if she was happy?”
While the royal family have never commented on Prince Harry’s comments, reports circled that the Queen was ‘hurt’ by his words.
It could be that Prince Harry’s memoir pushed the royal family closer together in order to present a united front in the face of his slew of accusations, which may explain the amicable relationship between Prince and Queen.
Whatever the feelings of his brother, such open displays of warmth between Queen Camilla and Prince William suggest that he has moved on from the past, and has adopting the Queen into his family with open arms.
Why are Prince William and Princess Catherine never seen kissing?
Like the late Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, the Prince and Princess of Wales are rarely pictured showing affection of any kind.
Usually, a kiss on the cheek is the most royal fans will see when the royal husband and wife greet each other – while a romantic kiss is usually reserved for the traditional ‘balcony moment’ at Buckingham Palace after royal weddings, a tradition which began when Prince Charles and Princess Diana kissed for crowds in 1981.
HELLO!’s Royal Editor Emily Nash explained why Catherine and William are never seen holding hands in public, as might be expected from an ‘ordinary’ couple: "The Prince and Princess are almost always seen in photographs taken during official engagements so they are at 'work' and it would be unprofessional to hold hands. They also need to shake hands with a huge number of people as they meet then, so aside from being on duty, it wouldn't be very practical! We know they are very affectionate and that sometimes comes across during more light-hearted moments, at sporting events or similar, but you wouldn't expect them to put that on a show while in more formal situations."

I certainly agree with Gail Catherwood holding hands while attending a public event would be inappropriate there’s time and place for W&C to show affection like informal events.
Being a Royal is a job, yes one that they inherited, but they are at some functions to promote the event or cause. Not appropriate
