The week's best royal photos
Prince William's overseas trip and more in The Royal Dispatch
Hello Royal Clubbers, it’s Millie here.
The main focus of the week has been Prince William’s trip to Rio de Janeiro and the glittering Earthshot Award prize ceremony, though I must give a special nod to the King and Queen of Spain who put on their finery for a visit from the Sultan of Oman.
But before we dive into the best royal pictures of the week, it’s time to head back in time…
On this day…
On this day in royal history, 8 November 1519, Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II and Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés met for the very first time in Tenochtitlan, Mexico. It’s a moment that is widely considered the starting point of the Spanish colonisation of much of Central and South America.
Moctezuma ruled over millions at the height of his power, and Cortés was welcomed with all due ceremony. Spanish records detail the precious stones and metals which decorated the Aztecs, while Aztecs placed importance on the flowers, cacao blooms, wreaths and garlands which decorated the way.
Gifts were swapped and then Cortés was welcomed into the city – a portentous move which heralded the downfall of the Aztec Empire through battle, smallpox and other diseases brought by the Spanish.

Best Royal Pictures of The Week
Queen Rania of Jordan
Queen Rania of Jordan was one of the speakers at the One Young World opening ceremony at Olympiapark on Monday in Munich, Germany. She looked typically glamorous, wearing a knitted top and matching barrel-leg trousers.
Spanish royals
What an incredible photograph of Oman’s Sultan His Majesty Haitham Bin Tariq alongside King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, as they attended a dinner gala at the Royal Palace on Tuesday in Madrid.
Here’s a closer look at Queen Letizia’s outfit – doesn’t she look radiant! The royal wore a 139-year-old Cartier tiara, specifically Queen Maria Christina’s Cartier Loop tiara. It features diamonds and pearls in loops, and dates back to 1886, when it was made for Queen Maria Christina, whose husband, King Alfonso XII, reigned over Spain from 1874 to 1885.
Queen Camilla
On Thursday, Queen Camilla wore this military-inspired outfit for a visit to the 97th Field Of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. The Field of Remembrance has been held every November since 1928 when The Poppy Factory, of which Queen Camilla is Patron, brought a group of disabled veterans a tray of poppies and a collecting tin to the grounds of St Margaret’s Church at Westminster Abbey.
She had a rather different kind of engagement on Wednesday, partnering up with TikTok star Spudman to serve food from a street food truck in an event to celebrate community volunteering.
Prince William in Rio
Prince William posed in front of Sugarloaf Mountain during a visit to Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday, as part of his visit to Brazil to host the Earthshot Prize awards and to attend the UN COP30 climate summit on behalf of King Charles.
Some airtime from the Prince of Wales, who played volleyball at a meeting with first responder lifeguards at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday.
It was a sporty outing for William, who also indulged his love of football during a Community Football event with children who are part of social projects at Maracana Stadium.
Finally, Prince William posed with Seu Jorge, Anitta, Kylie Minogue and Shawn Mendes at The Earthshot Prize Awards 2025, held at Museum of Tomorrow to celebrate and support those who are finding solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental issues.
Duchess Sophie
The Duchess of Edinburgh attended the Duchess of Edinburgh Cup Competition at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on Wednesday. The Cup is an annual inter-services competition, hosted this year by the Royal Army Medical Service (RAMS) at Sandhurst, which sees teams from regiments of the Army, Royal Navy and RAF participate in a series of competitive events to facilitate developing bonds of friendship, mutual understanding, and esprit de corps.
