Princess Kate's absence was felt at the BAFTAs
Our TV and Film editor Emmy Griffiths had a front-row seat at the ceremony
Prince William made his first very high–profile appearance yesterday since his wife Princess Kate's hospital admission last month. He officially returned to royal duties two weeks ago (did you catch Emily's newsletter on it?), but on Sunday evening, he headed for the bright lights of the BAFTAs and walked the red carpet at London's Royal Festival Hall.
William is President of BAFTA (the British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and so every year, at least in recent times apart from 2021 and 2022, he's been attending the charity's annual awards ceremony. It's the biggest night in the British film industry's calendar and a bit like the UK version of the Oscars.
HELLO!'s TV and Film Editor, Emmy Griffiths, was invited to attend the ceremony to report live from the event. She caught William's arrival on camera from her spot on the red carpet (you can watch her video here), but also felt Princess Kate's absence first-hand.
The Princess would normally walk the red carpet with William, but she was at home continuing with her post-surgery recovery. William said last night how sorry his wife was for having to miss the awards.
Without further ado, keep reading for Emmy's starry night at the BAFTAs with Prince William…
