Hi Royal Clubbers,
March has undoubtedly been all about the Princess of Wales: the unedifying swirl of speculation over her prolonged public absence, the disproportionate uproar over her edited Mother’s Day card and, finally, the upsetting news of her cancer diagnosis. Our top five posts for March will naturally reflect Kate’s prevalence in the month’s headlines but, as we all know, the essence of royalty is found in its collective strength, not its individual parts. With this mantra in mind, we have been sure to include a couple of tremendous posts in the monthly round-up which aren’t centred on the Princess of Wales.
We do hope you enjoy the selection, and also wish you a most chocolate-rich Easter weekend!
1. WATCH: Tracey Borman's revolutionary royal women
International Women’s Day took place at the beginning of the month and we marked it in the only way we know how: the royal way.
In this post, historian Tracey Borman (abetted by Isabelle) selects five revolutionary royal women throughout history, all truly fitting examples for a day celebrating the power of womanhood.
2. Don't just blame Kate for the 'fake photo' scandal
With the world going absolutely doolally over Kate ‘Photoshopgate’, it fell to Andrea to offer a more balanced perspective.
In this post, she argues that while Kate may have erred in judgement, it was unjust for her to be seen as solely responsible for the psychodrama.
3. Royal photographers share opposing views on Kate's photo
You’ve got Andrea’s take on the infamous photo but what about the perspectives of a couple of professional photographers?
In this post, we give the floor to Ben Stansall of AFP, one of the first international photo agencies who issued a "kill notice" on the royal portrait, and Liz McAulay, who has worked with the Middletons on their Party Pieces website and who has photographed Kate's mother Carole countless times.
4. Inside Kate's special bond with the King
Since Kate’s cancer-revelation video stunned the world last Friday, we have learnt that she met with King Charles for a private lunch the day prior. It has also came to light that the pair have been “in the closest contact” over the weeks since they were patients together at the London Clinic.
In this post, Emily unpacks the future Queen’s relationship with the current King as only she can.
5. Why we should all be paying attention to Princess Eugenie
Even the most popular members of the British royal family aren't immune to criticism and the poison of keyboard warriors, as we have all seen in recent weeks. And one royal woman who will know all too well what it feels like to be the butt of a cruel joke or the subject of a savage headline is Princess Eugenie, the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York.
In this post, Ainhoa looks at how the redoubtable princess has dealt with the barbs in exemplary fashion.
