Best of HELLO! royal coverage today
Prince William and Princess Catherine's personal photo and more...
Hi Royal Clubbers, it’s Iona here.
Firstly, here’s the best of the royal coverage over on HELLO! today.
Prince William and Princess Catherine’s personal photo you might have missed this week
The off-the-cuff comment the late Queen made about Princess Charlotte’s role in the family
Princess Catherine’s personal message of support as she follows in Diana’s footsteps
King Charles’ ‘twist’ on afternoon tea with £4 snack
Dianarama author Andy Webb on the ‘lethal’ consequences of Princess Diana’s Panorama interview
And the winner is…
Yesterday I asked if you liked Princess Catherine’s dress, and 96 per cent of you said yes!
Catherine received lots of love in the comments section from Royal Clubbers, with Kenneth writing: “The Princess looks so classy, glamorous and beautiful, just as a Princess should.”
Jasmine said: “I have two words for this elegant dark green velvet dress: stunningly beautiful!! Does Catherine ever get it wrong? NO!”
Honestly, I agree that it is rare (if not completely nonexistent) for Princess Catherine to have a fashion faux pas.
Nan made a fashion request for the Princess, adding: “I would love to see her wear this green dress with the tiara that has the emerald drops!”
I believe this is the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara, which is worth £10 million. It is made with six emeralds on either side of a stunning 93.7-carat emerald centre stone.
Now this would really go with green, and both Queen Camilla and Princess Eugenie have pulled it off, so I have no doubt that Catherine would as well.
Poll of the day
As you will have read, on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast this week, the guest was Andy Webb, who spoke about the infamous Princess Diana Panorama interview in 1995 ahead of the publication of his book, Dianarama: The Betrayal of Princess Diana.
The ad-free version of the podcast will be posted on The HELLO! Royal Club next week and I recommend having a listen. It sounds as if there were a lot of untrustworthy people around Diana, and she didn’t know whom to believe.
Personally, I think Princess Diana was right to do the Panorama interview but I am curious to hear your thoughts on the topic. And of course please expand on your choice in the comments.
Picture of the day
Yesterday would have been Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s 78th wedding anniversary.
The Royal Trust Collection shared two behind the scenes photos from their wedding and in the caption to describe the above photo it wrote: ‘‘Princess Elizabeth, later Queen Elizabeth II, married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey on this day in 1947. This photo by Baron taken in the Throne Room of Buckingham Palace shows the happy couple on their wedding day.’’
The second photo was described thus: ”Jack Bryant making the final adjustments to their wedding cake. The cake was 2.7 metres (9 feet) high and weighed 226 kg (500 pounds). One tier of the wedding cake was kept for the christening of their first child, Prince Charles, in December 1948.’’
Can you imagine having a wedding cake that big? How grand is that!
