As you will have read, Queen Máxima wore a pair of slightly cropped trousers when arriving at Jakarta airport.
I would say the cropped trouser look is very on-trend for 2025 and has made a bit of a comeback.
The ‘80s trend of cigarette trousers is a little skinnier compared to these slightly flared ones the Dutch queen wears, but they certainly look very comfortable for travelling in.
In this colder climate at the moment, I am avoiding anything slightly cut-off and prefer layering with thick, warm tights!

In a royal fashion throwback moment, here is a picture of Princess Diana on this very day back in 1982.
During her visit to Wrexham, Princess Diana playfully pulled off this bold patterned coat, paired with blue shoes.
I think she almost looks like a doll in her perfectly curated outfit, and I am envious of how she pulled off such a rogue mix of colour – I do love her tights, though!

As for the cropped trousers, maybe it’s more of a European thing, as I have lots of them and wear them every summer, when I’m not wearing shorts. Long trousers are too hot - I live in the south of France. I don’t like those ones on Maxima though, maybe because she looks so dull. It’s just not like her, all in black like that!
