Why it's time to leave Kate in peace
Have we forgotten that one person's coffee break entertainment is someone else's real life?
Hi everyone,
Did I miss much in the last few weeks?!
I’ve sat down to write this newsletter several times in the past couple of days, but it seems that every few hours there has been a new twist in the tale.
Today it’s the deeply concerning allegation that at least one member of staff at the London Clinic attempted to access the private medical records of the Princess of Wales, an incident which has so far involved the hospital, the Information Commissioner and the Metropolitan Police.
It’s hard to believe that when I clocked off work a fortnight ago for planned surgery (more on that later) I thought the wild conspiracy theories about the Princess of Wales on social media would soon blow over.
Little did I know that one of the most bizarre episodes in royal coverage in recent history was about to unfold and things were about to get a whole lot worse.
Against the backdrop of Kate’s mystery (read private) illness and absence from the public eye, she decided to share a family photograph for Mother’s Day and within hours, all hell broke loose as picture agencies declared it to have been digitally manipulated.
What should have been a lovely family moment shared with the public quickly turned into a feeding frenzy of allegations about the Princess’s health, marriage and whereabouts.
It was a rare misstep for Kate, who later admitted she had edited the image and apologised for the “confusion” caused.
