What’s going on with Charles and William?
The Royal Editor reveals the truth about those royal rift rumours
Hi Royal Clubbers, it’s Emily.
A wonderful new portrait of King Charles was unveiled earlier today by his sister, the Princess Royal, at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
Taken by Millie Pilkington, it shows the monarch standing in the sunken garden at Balmoral, wearing King Charles III tartan and leaning on a handcrafted stick – a gift from the Mey Highland Games.
It was taken last year but it places the King in the heart of his Scottish estate (which I was lucky enough to visit last year, as you can relive in this video diary), the peaceful retreat where he has been spending time with Prince William for the past few days (albeit Charles is staying at Birkhall, his home nearby, while his eldest son is at the castle itself).
It’s the third September in a row they have been in Scotland together, but this time around the trip is happening amid growing suggestions of a rift between the monarch and his heir.
