She looks pasty, and artificial. It has none of her beauty, courage or beauty.

The portraits of both King Charles and Princess Kate should be a national embarrassment. Nobody expected a van Gog-like portrait, but a portrait should resemble the King and Princess, not artistic (and, in this care, horribly poor) interpretations of the subjects of these debacles. I wouldn't have expected this monstrosity from a professional artist (of high stature, no less) to offer this disaster. It appears that the "artist" who painted the King was trying to advance his career rather than offer a high-quality portrait of King Charles.

Poor Kate, I think she has enough problems to deal with at present without being shown this terrible monstrosity of a so called portrait. What a terrible portrait of her. Who on earth picked this artist to paint such a beautiful person in such a terrible way. If this is how the artist showed her interpretation of our beautiful princess I think she needs to go back to art school to do a crash course in portrait painting.

It certainly does not capture her grace and beauty. It looks like a newspaper comic.

Her face doesn't resemble her at all--it's ugly. I don't know what pictures the artist followed to create her face but there are so many photos of Kate that show her beauty---she's gorgeous! I'm sure I've offended the artist but this cover should be trashed!!!

I really don’t want to be critical of the artist because it’s hard to paint a portrait especially if you are only working from pictures. But the face in the painting doesn’t do Princess Catherine justice at all. It doesn’t show her grace, beauty, elegance or her lovely peace she carries so well everywhere she goes and with which she greets everyone.

I have to agree with the writer who said it was a good painting but unfortunately does not bear even a passing resemblances to our lovely Princess, except for the dress & jewels. I think her face is the wrong shape & looks like a mask with no character. Her hair is not right either.

By contrast I absolutely loved the King's portrait. The face stood out from the background & showed his strength of character & humour. A great work.

When I first glanced at it, I thought it was Princess Leia from Star Wars ! The face looks nothing like Princess. Kate!

Hate to say it, but no on both questions. I want to like the portraitist - she's gorgeous and has an interesting background - but...

What a terrible representation of someone who has dignity, poise and yes, beauty. It does not portray the "heart" of Princess Catherine. The two recent portraits of royalty are just horrible and should be banished to the furthest corner of the nearest basement and forgotten. They are both an embarrassment.

Wow...

Is it a likeness?

Not really

Is it an amalgam of all the people Catherine is, and meant to be?

Perhaps

The artwork in and of itself is lovely. This would make an amazing illustration of Catherine in a children's book.

However, I am blown away at the amount of negative responses. This post certainly says a lot more about our current society, than this piece of art.

It is not being featured in a children's book but on a magazine cover. Is that a back-handed insult directed at the artist?

Not at all. Why are people so angry and accusatory? It's fine where it is. It reminded me of beautiful artwork in children's books. I was imagining a whole series of books about a special lady who happens to be a princess. Each book could talk about what matters most to her. Good health, kindness, service and giving. But hey if you want to choose negative behavior, that's your choice...
