Hi Royal Clubbers, it’s Millie back again to bring you a bumper two-week edition of The Royal Dispatch, including best royal pictures from the last two weeks.
It’s been a busy time for royal birthdays and outings, so there are lots of fabulous moments that have been captured.
But before we get on to the best royal pictures of the week, time for some history.
On This Day…
On 10 May, 1941, the Dutch queen Wilhelmina made a speech on Radio Orange, a Dutch radio programme on the BBC European Service broadcast to the German-occupied Netherlands during World War II.
As well as making the first ever broadcast on Radio Orange, Queen Wilhelmina spoke on the station a total of 34 times.
Wilhelmina later said: “My broadcast speeches were not only concerned with the new times. They also aimed at inspiring and stiffening resistance against the oppressor and at informing the nation of the government’s policy. At the same time, I did what I could to assist my countrymen in their spiritual struggle and paid homage to those who have given their lives in the great cause.”
She was quite the inspiring woman! Whilhelmina ruled for 58 years before abdicating due to age and ill health, making her the longest-ruling Dutch monarch and the longest-reigning female monarch outside of the UK. She was known for cycling instead of taking cars, and travelled around the country to speak to the Dutch people.
