Hello, Royal Clubbers, I hope you’re having a good weekend!
It’s Millie here, and I’m delighted to announce the new name for the Sunday newsletter: The Royal Dispatch. Thank you to everyone who voted in last week’s newsletter (you can catch up here), and to Royal Club reader Janet for the brilliant suggestion.
Before we dive into the week’s best pictures, I wanted to share some quick royal trivia with you.
On this day in royal history, 20 October 1973, Queen Elizabeth II opened the Sydney Opera House in Australia. The building took 14 years to complete and was made up of over one million tiles, designed to be self-cleaning and a complement to the harbour, the sky and the sunlight.
There was also a flyby of army helicopters and over 2,000 yachts and ships for the occasion.
If you’d like to read more royal history, don’t forget to catch up on my new monthly newsletter, The Royal Archive, in which I look at contemporary royal news through a historical prism. Marking the ongoing royal tour of Australia, yesterday’s post recalled previous occasions when the royals have headed Down Under.
Remember, you can comment or reply back to this email to let us know your thoughts on the week and the exciting start of the royal tour.
This week, King Charles and Queen Camilla kicked off the royal tour to Australia in style as they landed in Sydney on Friday for their first official tour as reigning monarchs. Prince William also had a busy week, testing out his athletic ability and crime scene investigation skills, while the Spanish royals united for a special day.
