My top 3 moments from King Charles III's coronation
The King's historical celebration was a major career highlight
Torrential rain, hordes of people lining the streets, and a sea of British flags can only mean one thing – a royal coronation. King Charles III’s coronation on 6 May had all of those things in bucket loads, which made for a royal celebration I will never forget.
Situated along Whitehall, I had the luxury of an untrammelled view of the day's proceedings back in May – even if it meant being carried over metal fences and nonchalantly escorted by a police officer to my fixed location.
But once I managed to make my way through the packed-out London streets, I settled in to enjoy the day which, even from the very early hours of the morning was clad in excited anticipation for the historical moment. Reporting on the pomp and ceremony of the spectacular occasion was certainly a highlight of my career so far, so let me take you through my favourite three moments.
1. Watching the procession with Elizabeth Holmes
I spent the majority of my day alongside professional royal watcher Elizabeth Holmes, who flew in from her sun-soaked family abode in LA. Elizabeth is a regular royal commentator, particularly on royal fashion, and is known for her So Many Thoughts posts which unpack with incredible intricacy the details of the royals' lavish outfits.
Elizabeth (whose likeness to the Princess of Wales was a hot topic amongst the royal fans around us) and her assistant Annie were overcome with emotion as the carriages passed our spot on Whitehall.
"It's like a fairytale," they exclaimed, and it really dawned on me just how much the British royal family could be taken from a storybook. While in the UK we are used to revelling in their extravagant outfits, horse-led carriages and colourful flypasts, our friends from the US were used to the complete antithesis with their country's leaders. They couldn't quite believe their eyes as the glamorous procession went by, which was an incredible moment to witness.
You can relive my pre-coronation interview with Elizabeth in this video.
2. Waving to Princess Charlotte
Now based on what I have just explained about Elizabeth and Annie, you can imagine our delight when it appeared as though Princess Charlotte waved to us in the crowd. Could the little Princess have been showing off her Queen-like wave at the rows of people in front of us? Potentially. Will we forever tell the tale of how they were graced with a royal wave? Absolutely.
Nevertheless, we got an incredible glimpse of Princess Charlotte from inside the carriage and it was remarkable to see her from such a close position, especially in the dazzling Alexander McQueen ensemble she donned alongside her mother Princess Kate.
And now for my third and most special memory…
