Royal Clubbers in disagreement over the Sussexes' actions
Hello Royal Clubbers, it’s Ainhoa here with a follow-up post from yesterday’s poll.
In case you missed it, I asked readers to vote on whether Harry and Meghan should have attended Kris Jenner’s glitzy 70th birthday party, which happened to fall on the same weekend as Remembrance Sunday. The poll is still open so feel free to cast your vote if you haven’t already.
At the time of writing this, just over half of you (54 per cent) responded “no”, while 34 per cent said “yes” and a further 12 per cent were “unsure”. I think the comments were a little more telling – and very unfavourable, particularly towards the Duchess.
One reader Elizabeth said in part: “The only thing Meghan cares about is being worshipped. She is all about the glamor and glitz and being in the headlines… Harry is a lost soul. I truly feel sorry for him.”
Betsy agreed, saying in part, “Meghan is all about Meghan … She has torn Harry from his family,” while Geeta also said, in part: “Harry has unfortunately married a party lady of whom from the start was not interested in the UK royals and living here in London.”
The missing poppy
A lot of the comments also highlighted that it was a “shame” Meghan didn’t wear a poppy (Harry noticeably did wear one on his tuxedo). “Again, a pathetic lack of judgement on their part. Why didn’t Harry suggest to Meghan to wear a poppy? Is he intimidated by her?” one reader Joan asked.
‘Damned if they do, damned if they don’t’
However, other Royal Clubbers were more of the opinion that the Sussexes should be allowed to do as they please. Lorna gave a less trenchant comment, saying that perhaps Meghan should have her title removed for lack of wearing a poppy and general awareness, though caveated this with: “In the USA and Canada, Remembrance Day ceremonies take place on November 11th. I therefore see no reason they shouldn’t have socialised on the weekend.”
Amerissis summed up her point, noting that Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals, so it seems “strange” for people to expect them to honour the same events that the British royal family do. I quite agree with her closing point: “It seems to be damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.”

Its not right to judge those living in America by British standards. Kris Jenner just so happens to have a Birthday near to Remembrance Sunday this year. Remembrance Sunday changes every year in date, Birthdays don't. A 70th Birthday is a big deal and Kris Jenner has the right to invite whom she wants to to her party, even if they are royalty. If Harry and Megan didn't go to the Birthday bash, they might have offended Kris Jenner and maybe Remembrance Sunday isn't as celebrated in the USA as it is in the UK. Harry is British, so its reasonable that he wore a poppy that weekend, but Megan is not, and like Megan, it doesn't appear that other guests were wearing poppies to this party. Naomi Watts was born in the UK, and she's not wearing a poppy either. I don't get this hatred of the Sussex's. It feels so bitchy. I totally agree with Karen. We shouldn't be so negative about people. Look at what happened to poor Caroline Flack, with the way she was treated before her suicide. We should all learn from the mistakes of the past and move on with far more empathy and understanding. We should embrace kindness, open-mindedness and less judgement. For all everyone knows, Harry and Megan may have attended a remembrance event on the actual remembrance day date of November 11th.
