Hello, Royal Clubbers, it’s Millie here. I was delighted to receive so many responses a few weeks ago when we asked you all about your encounters with royalty, so a big thank you to everyone who commented or emailed.
Chandra’s choral welcome for Elizabeth and Philip
It was particularly wonderful to hear from Royal Clubber Chandra, who at 86 years old can still remember being chosen as one of 100 young people to make up a children’s choir to sing for the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during their visit to Sri Lanka in 1954. She was also one of the Girl Guides present in the guard of honour when they opened parliament in Colombo at Independence Square.
Royal Clubber Michelle managed to speak to the late Queen. While waiting outside the entrance to Windsor Castle, a lady-in-waiting noticed Michelle and directed the Queen towards her.
Michelle wished Queen Elizabeth a very happy 90th birthday, and recalled what a nice person she was.
She also met the then-Duchess of Cambridge around Christmas 2013. They spoke about Prince George’s first Christmas, and Catherine mentioned how excited George was to see the colourful shades of the Christmas wrapping paper, and even more excited to unwrap the presents.
