I’ve just watched Prince William walk into tonight’s Gala fundraiser for London’s Air Ambulance Charity at Raffles Hotel at the OWO, a luxury hotel in central London, where he was joined by Top Gun star Tom Cruise.
He looked dapper in a velvet tuxedo and turned to respond to a polite question from the media, saying: “We really appreciate everyone’s kind messages, thank you.”
And after a week of high drama for the royal family, it was left to the heir to the throne to thank the wider world for an outpouring of support and to lighten the mood with a joke.
