Alex here, still dreaming of a country retreat that I was lucky enough to dine at last month. In late November, I paid a visit to the Dorchester Collection’s Coworth Park in Berkshire for a festive lunch prepared by Michelin-starred Chef Adam Smith.

On the eve of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, it was reported that the groom and his older brother, Prince William, would be staying at this very 5-star countryside hotel. So imagine my surprise when I stepped into the hotel’s Dower House and learned that it was the house where King Charles’ sons stayed the night before the 2018 royal wedding… and it’s easy to see why.
It’s private and feels straight out of a storybook, truly fit for real-life Princes.
Coworth Park’s Dower House has to be one of the coziest homes I’ve ever stepped into. The house reopened this past summer following an interior restoration by British interior designer Martin Hulbert. The charming property features three en-suite bedrooms, along with multiple living spaces, a study, a personal wine room and a kitchen. It’s said to have been “designed as a restorative sanctuary for those seeking privacy, space and connection to nature”.
The dining room, dressed in a gorgeous autumnal tablescape complete with crackers, provided a picture-perfect setting for a multi-course meal crafted by Chef Adam during my visit. Guests at the modern country house can enjoy tailor-made menus, and a private chef is available upon request.
A stay at the Dower House, however, does come with a royal price tag, with seasonal rates starting at £5,000.
