Hi everyone, it’s Emily here.

I spent the afternoon covering the Prince and Princess of Wales’s attendance at a London ceremony to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, exactly 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.

It was incredibly moving to witness the service, during which Prince William gave a reading about his great-grandmother, Princess Alice, who played a crucial role in protecting Jewish people during the war. He and Catherine then lit candles to honour all those lost in the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

It was also wonderful to see them interact with concentration camp survivors at a reception beforehand, where Catherine was reunited with Steven Frank, who she photographed in 2020 alongside his granddaughters for the ‘Generations: Portraits of Holocaust Survivors’ exhibition at the Imperial War Museum.
