WATCH: Quirky royal jobs that no longer exist
Isabelle visits Kensington Palace for a fascinating new exhibition
Hello, Royal Clubbers!
I have a very special treat for you today. I was lucky enough to head down to Kensington Palace to have a look at their brand new exhibition, Untold Lives: A Palace at Work.
If you are mad about royal history like me (if so, you will also love my video on history’s formidable royal women, as well as this post on royal-brother fallouts throughout the ages), then you will be enthralled by what this exhibition uncovers. It was an absolute pleasure to meet Dr. Mishka Sinha, one of the impressive curators, who told me all about the rich stories behind the pieces featured in the collection.
The exhibition delves into the forgotten stories of those who worked at the royal palaces over 300 years ago, and details some of the weird and wonderful jobs that no longer exist.
From 'Groom of the Stool', someone who was responsible for being on the monarch's bathroom duties, to the 'Necessary Woman', which was a high-valued job, I loved finding out all about the unheard stories of palace life.
Check out some of Mishka's highlights from the exhibition in the video below and, of course, please let me know in the comments what your favourite artifact from the exhibition is.
Untold Lives: A Palace at Work opened last week and is running until 27 October 2024. Are you planning a visit?
