This is why we saw William cry publicly for the first time
The Royal Editor on the tears of a Prince
Hi Royal Clubbers, it’s Emily.
It was a moment that took the world by surprise. As he chatted to Rhian Mannings, whose husband died by suicide following the tragic death of their one-year-old son, Prince William’s eyes filled with tears. Here is the moving footage in full.
For a man who has suffered enormous grief and emotional turmoil over the years and managed to publicly keep a lid on his emotions, this was quite the departure.
But we shouldn’t really be surprised. This was just the latest example of the future king showing us the very human face of our royal family.
Only a week ago we heard William open up like never before in conversation with Eugene Levy at Windsor Castle. And nearly a year ago, he told how 2024 had been “brutal” thanks to the double cancer diagnoses of his father the King and wife Catherine.
But this was the first time we have seen him publicly moved to tears and I think it’s worth considering the reasons why it has happened now..
