The week's best royal photos
Princess Catherine gets playful, Danish royals out en masse, and more in The Royal Dispatch
Hello Royal Clubbers, it’s Danielle here, filling in for Millie while she’s on a well-deserved break.
While the week started off a little quieter, there’s been a flurry of engagements in the latter half for the British royals.
But before we dive into the best royal pictures of the week, it’s time to dig into the archives.
On this day…
King George II and his wife, Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach, were crowned at Westminster Abbey on 11 October 1727.
George II was the only son of George I and Sophie, born at Herrenhausen in Hanover, Germany in 1683. In 1705 he became a naturalised English subject, paving the way for his 1727 coronation.
Fun fact: Queen Caroline’s coronation dress was so encrusted with jewels that a special pulley had to be devised in order to lift the skirt slightly so she could kneel down at various points in the ceremony.
George II’s reign is remembered for victories in Canada, the Jacobite rebellion and the establishment of British interests in India.
The King died at Kensington Palace on 25 October 1760 and is buried in the Lady Chapel of Westminster Abbey.
