British royals

For their first engagement of the year, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Charing Cross Hospital in central London. William was always due to attend but Catherine made a surprise appearance, to meet NHS staff members and surprise them over their tea break. The royals spent time chatting to healthcare professionals about the pressures they faced during the winter virus season.

Catherine also bonded with one volunteer who works with people going through chemotherapy. “People will sit there for hours,” the volunteer said, to which Catherine replied, “I know,” before touching William’s shoulder and saying, “You know.”

Technically not a photo, but we couldn’t not include this one in our round-up. To mark Catherine’s 44th birthday yesterday, Kensington Palace released a video of the Princess enjoying an early morning walk in Berkshire and reflecting on how nature has helped her heal over the past two years.

You can watch the moving video, beautifully shot and produced by Will Warr, here.

To mark the fifth anniversary of her virtual book club and charity, The Queen’s Reading Room, a new photo of Camilla was released showing the royal indulging in one of her favourite pastimes.

In remarks, the Queen celebrated all that her charity has achieved, including staging an annual literary festival, launching a podcast, and introducing The Queen’s Reading Room Medal to celebrate unsung local heroes who champion reading. But Camilla also warned: “At a time when global reading rates are at their very lowest, my charity’s mission feels more urgent than ever.”

Danish royals

King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have been welcoming in 2026 with a host of banquets and official engagements. And for the New Year’s parade from Christiansborg Palace to Amalienborg Palace, the Australian-born royal looked as regal as ever in this intricate floor-length gown by Teri Jon by Rickie Freeman, which featured gold detailing across the bodice and skirt.

The day before, Mary once again showed off her sartorial chops, dressing head-to-toe in midnight blue velvet. The couple were hosting a party for the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg Palace.

On Thursday, in celebration of Mary and Frederik’s youngest children’s birthday, the palace also released new portraits of Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. The twins turned 15 this week.

Spanish royals

At the beginning of the week, the Spanish royal family celebrated Pascua Militar, an annual military ceremony paying tribute to the Armed Forces. King Felipe and Princess Leonor, who is completing her final year of military training, were suitably dressed in uniform, while Queen Letizia brought the drama in a faux fur-trimmed black cape from her go-to designer, Carolina Herrera.

Jordanian royals

Queen Rania of Jordan was accompanied by her second daughter, Princess Salma, on a visit to Wadi Rum, a striking UNESCO Heritage Site and protected area located in the southern part of the country. The royals met with local tour operators and experienced some of the activities visitors and tourists can enjoy, such as sitting around a bonfire in the open desert.

Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, has served as the backdrop for several movies such as Dune (Parts I and II), two Star Wars films, and The Martian.
