Hi Royal Clubbers, it’s Millie bringing you our latest edition of The Royal Dispatch.
We hope you’ve been following along as our Royal Editor Emily Nash has accompanied King Charles and Queen Camilla on their state visit to Italy this week.
But before we get on to the best royal pictures of the week, time for some royal history.
On this day…
In light of our recent royal visit to Italy, I thought it would be pertinent to have a Roman spin on our royal history this week.
On 12 April 467, Anthemius came to power as a Western Roman emperor.
He was installed by Leo I, an Eastern Roman emperor who wanted Anthemius to aid him in attacking the Vandals, a Germanic people based in North Africa who Leo argued posed a threat to Rome.
Ricimer, a patrician of the Western Empire, supported Anthemius’ ascension as long as Ricimer could marry Anthemius’ daughter, thus joining their families together and further solidifying Ricimer’s power.
When Anthemius joined forces with Leo to attack the Vandals it failed miserably and their forces were defeated. Anthemius and Ricimer began to butt heads and, in spite of the union between their two families, in 472 Ricimer besieged Rome where Anthemius was captured while pretending to be a beggar and beheaded. Homeless and headless – an inauspicious ending indeed.
Best Royal Pictures of The Week
King Abdullah
King Abdullah joined Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and French president Emmanuel Macron for a trilateral summit on Monday at the Presidential Palace in Cairo.
Duchess Sophie
How cute! Duchess Sophie couldn't contain her joy as she played with the sweetest puppies including 12-week-old pup Gino during a visit to the Yellow Labrador Club on Tuesday. "We had to watch carefully that she didn't sneak one in her pocket," club honorary secretary Sussie Wiles joked.
Princess Catharina-Amalia
A fitting flower for the future Queen of the Netherlands. Princess Catharina-Amalia marked a royal first on Monday carrying out her inaugural solo engagement abroad. She travelled to Madrid in Spain to visit to a magnificent tulip garden, gifted as a thank you for the people and government of Madrid for staying in the city during safety measures in 2023 and 2024.
Prince Harry
A rare sight to see Prince Harry in the UK, but he waved to crowds and appeared cheerful despite the nature of his visit – to attend the High Court for his appeal against the downgrading of his security detail for family visits to the UK.
Queen Letizia
Queen Letizia looked chic as usual at the commemoration of International Romani Day at Spanish parliament on Tuesday. Whatever the occasion, the Spanish queen can be relied upon to bring her signature style.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra
Princess Ingrid Alexandra had a beautiful tiara moment during a gala dinner marking the state visit of Iceland's president Halla Tomasdottir.
King Charles and Queen Camilla
King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited the Colosseum on Tuesday during their state visit to Italy. This rather impressive shot came as they were walking to inspect restoration work on the ancient construction.
The royals also made time to visit the Pope at the Vatican on Wednesday.
Prince George
And the crowd goes wild! There were some pretty excited royal reactions from Prince George and Prince William as the father-son duo celebrated a goal during a quarter final match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa FC on Wednesday.
Queen Mary
Queen Mary of Denmark looked especially royal in this vibrant blue blazer as she visited a counselling centre at Herlev Hospital in Denmark on Wednesday.
