Hello Royal Clubbers, it's Millie here.
This week feels comparatively quiet after the buzz of Royal Ascot, but nonetheless royals have been busy far and wide on various engagements.
But before we dive into the best royal pictures and the diary, let's take a little look back at some royal history.
On This Day…
On this day in royal history, 28 June 1838, Queen Victoria was crowned in Westminster Abbey, aged just 19 years old. The young ruler described the day as “the proudest in my life”, but there were moments in the five-hour ceremony that did not quite go to plan.
She was crowned with the imperial state crown, featuring 3,000 diamonds, sapphires and other precious gemstones, and she was assisted by eight train-bearers dressed in white satin with silver wreaths and pink roses in their hair.
The coronation was under-rehearsed. At one point, Lord Rolle, an elderly peer, fell (rolled?) down the steps while making his homage to the Queen. The archbishop caused Victoria “great pain” by forcing the coronation ring onto the wrong finger and she was at another point incorrectly informed the ceremony was over, and had to return to her seat.
In spite of the few mishaps, Victoria’s 63-year reign started with an unforgettable day full of grandeur.
