The meaning behind Catherine's Christmas card
Plus a special festive offer
Hi Royal Clubbers, it’s Danielle here with my take on the Prince and Princess of Wales annual Christmas card which they sent yesterday.
The message simply reads “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year”, but it’s the chosen image which does the talking.
It’s a still from Catherine’s momentous September video in which she revealed her chemotherapy had ended and her focus was on “doing what I can to stay cancer free”.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are shown with their arms around Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and the significance is clear. In a year described by Catherine as “incredibly tough for us as a family”, the photo emphasises the strength of their familial bond. And while the summery scene is somewhat incongruous for a Christmas card, it’s a setting which radiates positivity and hope for the future.
The photograph is also symbolic of where Catherine feels most at home. Over the years, the Princess has spoken about her love for the great outdoors and the healing power of nature, with the video message showing the Waleses enjoying a walk through the woods and playing on the beach in Norfolk.
It places emphasis on Catherine’s message of hope, with the Princess stating: “Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”
And it reiterates her support for patients and families going through their own cancer journey - “I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright."
