In recent a speech at the Centre for Early Childhood Future Workforce Summit, Princess Catherine expressed her appreciation for carers and emphasised the importance of creating nurturing environments throughout society. While the Princess can’t create these environments herself, she can encourage others to do so by practising what she preaches in the raising of her own family. Over the past few years, we have seen repeated evidence she is doing just this with young George.
Volunteering in 2023
Early in the 2023 holiday season, Prince George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, volunteered with the Princess of Wales at a baby bank in Maidenhead, Berkshire, sorting and choosing gifts for children in need.
Their visit was recorded as a short film and released on the Princess’ social media channels to encourage others to donate.
All three children were excellent helpers but, as the oldest, it was apparent that Prince George was most cognisant of the importance of their work. He was highly present and engaged, and his empathy and thoughtfulness shone through as he intently selected gifts for the children.
One especially memorable scene showed Catherine explaining the role of the baby bank to Prince George: a tableau both of relational warmth and the value of helping others.
Buckingham Palace tea party 2025
After gathering with his family to watch the VE Day flypast on the balcony, Prince George made a special appearance at a Buckingham Palace tea party with his parents.
As well as marking an important step towards his future public role, it also marked a highly significant link between past and future as George will likely be the last monarch personally to meet World War II veterans.
As he asked questions and listened attentively, Prince George showed his maturity and presence in a historical setting. He also showed empathy and sensitivity in asking attendees about their D-Day experiences.
His connection with the veterans, who responded warmly to his efforts, exemplified the Princess’ Shaping Us principle of building meaningful relationships.
Festival of Remembrance
In his most recent appearance at the Festival of Remembrance, Prince George sat beside his mother and grandparents, signalling his growing role on the national stage. His comportment and attentiveness during the event again showed his comfort in public settings.
The connection between mother and son was also clear, with the Princess engaging Prince George throughout, helping him to observe and understand the significance of the event.
It is heartwarming to see how Prince George’s select public engagements embody the principles his mother cherishes for all children – namely how fostering empathy, presence, and meaningful connections can shape our children to build meaningful futures.

Children are on earth to learn that they are not alone but that there are plenty of people who are here on earth with them. It is good to see that the youth given a chance can participate with the older generations and learn a great deal from them.
Much has been given to this royal family. Much to be given back to show their loyalty to the commonwealth . All children should be given the opportunity to give back. But they only learn by example.....The Wales family have great examples in many generations of how it is done.
