Shop Queen Mary's wardrobe
The Royal Shopper proves copying the Danish queen's immaculate style is easier than you may think
Queen Mary of Denmark is consistently regarded as one of the most stylish royals, and for good reason! Move over Emily in Paris, because this week we’ve had Mary in Paris and she’s brought her fashion A-game.
The 53-year-old has been very busy indeed. The King and Queen of Denmark have been on a State visit to France and I have been obsessed with all of her fashion choices. We’ve had structured coats, chic pant suits, and a statement floral maxi skirt that’s going to live rent-free in my head for the foreseeable future.
As your Royal Shopper, it’s only right that I break down these looks but find you lookalikes for a lot less.
Click on the price either in dollars or pound sterling. FYI, when you purchase through links, we may earn commission.
Day 1: The wow-worthy floral maxi
Queen Mary always shines at formal events with her exquisite evening wear. For the first State Banquet of the trip she looked regal yet fashion-forward. I can picture fashionista Carrie Bradshaw wearing an outfit like this on an episode of And Just Like That. It’s so refreshing to see the royal taking fashion risks in this Lasse Spangenberg floral maxi skirt with a CLEA embroidered cream shirt in cream.
To accessorise, she opted for an Anya Hindmarch clutch, a pair of Gianvito Rossi beige satin heels (available in the UK / US) and a pair of divine topaz and diamond earrings.
If you’re smitten with this skirt like I am, you’ll be so impressed by this lookalike from ASOS Luxe, $119 / £85.
Day 1: The cream suit of dreams
For day one, Mary wore a Dior 30 Montaigne Bar Single-Breasted Wool and Silk Jacket with the matching skirt. While her style is often minimal, she knows when to incorporate a striking element, and for this outfit all eyes were on her sky high Gianvito Rossi Cap Toe Patent Leather Pumps and her trusty Mulberry ‘Islington’ Tote Bag, $1,297 / £1,110.
If you’re looking to recreate the look, I’ve searched far and wide for a similar chic jacket and this Reformation Mabel Jacket, $248 / £248 is spot on.
Day 2: Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking.
A hallmark of Queen Mary’s style is her ability to re-wear outfits in fresh and creative ways. She often repeats dresses, gowns, and coats from previous engagements, sometimes having them tailored or updated slightly, setting a great example for sustainable fashion in royal circles. For day two, she stepped out for a reception wearing her Taller Marmo Toro Fantasma Fil-Coupe Coat spun from semi-sheer chiffon decorated with graduated gold fil-coupé flowers. Mary’s 'Queen' gold earrings from the Portuguese jewellery brand Alma E. Coração completed the look perfectly.
Looking for a new sheer trench coat for your closet? Karen Millen has a Sheer Black Trench Coat, $142 / £89 that’s so stylish. Just add heels.
Day 2: The perfect tailored suit
Queen Mary carries herself with an air of confidence at all times. Like a lot of royal ladies, she’s a fan of the classic tailored suit, and I adore this one by the luxury Australian fashion brand, Scanlan Theodore. Not only is it tailored to perfection, but she has teamed the teal two-piece with a pair of pink python leather pumps by Gianvito Rossi - this teams nicely with the pink satin blouse underneath.
Fancy adding an affordable version of Mary’s suit to your own collection? I love this Mango Suit in Forest Green, $259.98 / £159.98.
Day 3: Culottes and Chanel - a great combo!
Unlike some royals who strictly follow traditional dress codes, Queen Mary incorporates modern touches into her outfits. Just look at these culottes! She always manages to balances tradition with contemporary elegance. For a trip to City Hall in Paris, she wore a new co-ord from Copenhagen brand, MKDT Studio which she paired with a pair of Aquazzura burgundy boots, a chic Chanel handbag and a new pair of Ray Ban sunglasses - the RB4362 style, $168 / £144.
From well-chosen accessories to perfectly tailored fits, every aspect of Queen Mary’s look is carefully curated. She is known for impeccable styling—whether it’s pairing a statement belt with a simple dress or adding a brooch to enhance an outfit. For this particular look she went for a new Dior vintage brooch from the 1964 collection.
If you’re now convinced on culottes, these Karen Millen Herringbone Cropped Trousers, $99 / £60, are seriously chic.
Final verdict
Mary’s fashion choices this past week align with the chic Scandinavian design principles she’s known for - I’m talking clean lines, tailored silhouettes, and the odd trend-led statement piece. She’s definitely inspiring my new spring wardrobe, that’s for sure. This is a woman who knows how to dress, and isn’t afraid to take risks - we all need to be more Mary.
