Hi Royal Clubbers,
Today we're celebrating a big birthday for the Duke of Edinburgh – his milestone 60th!
Edward, who is the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and the younger brother of King Charles, is a full-time senior working royal. He spends a lot of time championing young people, but his other interests include the arts, sport, and conservation.
Edward is marking another momentous occasion later this year – his 25th wedding anniversary in June to wife Sophie, with whom he shares two children Louise and James. The Edinburghs reside at Bagshot Park in Surrey.
The Duke doesn't receive as much air time as others royals, but Edward has proved to be a safe pair of hands for the monarchy.
His sense of humour often comes through with his unique approach to plaque unveiling and cake cutting, not to mention his quirky ties! Have you ever noticed them (see the photo above)? He even wore a cat-printed tie on his wedding day (scroll down).
Royal watchers were delighted when Edward was finally made Duke of Edinburgh on his 59th birthday, in line with his late parents' wishes.
