My royal invitation to Christmas at Dumfries House
Danielle takes the reins for this week's festive The Royal Editor
Hello Royal Clubbers,
It’s Danielle here, with a festive early treat just for you. You may have noticed that all the halls have been decked at some of the royal residences in recent weeks, including Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle, and as Alex investigated earlier this week, Buckingham Palace’s Christmas shop (not market!) is open for business.
Speaking of Windsor Castle, Alex went down for an exclusive preview earlier this week, so you’ll be able to see St George’s Hall in all its glory in her video diary coming out later today – keep your eyes peeled!
While Balmoral is the most famous of the royal family’s Scottish estates, Dumfries House is the home that was saved by the King – then the Prince of Wales. In 2007, the 18th century property and its antique contents were due to be auctioned off. But at the eleventh hour, Charles led a consortium of organisations and individuals in a passionate campaign for its rescue.
Over the past 18 years, it has been painstakingly restored, including its famous collection of Chippendale furniture, and is the headquarters of the monarch’s charity, the King’s Foundation.
I was lucky enough to be invited to Dumfries House this week for a tour of the main house and its beautiful Christmas set-up for the festive season ahead, and lucky for you, Royal Clubbers, I can share some of the magical candlelit soiree with you.
