My favourite memories of Queen Elizabeth II
A look back at some of the special moments I witnessed over the years...
Hi everyone,
It finally feels like Spring here in London, in the week Queen Elizabeth II would have celebrated her 98th birthday.
April 21 has always been an easy date for me to remember – it comes a few days after my own birthday and that of my late grandmother. I always thought of the Queen’s birthday as a moment when the diary turned to summer events.
As it comes around again, I wanted to share some of my memories of covering her engagements in the later years of her life. It was always a pinch-me moment to see her up close and watch the way she interacted with people, however routine the occasion.
Whether I watched her amid the roses at the Chelsea Flower Show, turning up to visit the Sandringham Women’s Institute, visiting Prince William at work for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, or at the top table on formal state occasions, it was a privilege to witness her at work and I’ll never forget the effect her presence had on the people she met.
I’ve picked out a few of the key moments that stand out in my memory, but I’d love to hear from you about your favourite recollections of the late monarch.
