Hi everyone, it’s Emily here.
It’s a huge week here in the UK as we head to the polls for a General Election on July 4.
The King will play a crucial role on Friday, accepting the resignation of the outgoing Prime Minister (if the forecasts are on track) and inviting a new leader to form a Government.
Both leaders will get around 30 minutes or longer with the monarch, hinting at a detailed debrief from the outgoing leader and an in-depth welcome to the job for his or her successor.
The monarch’s relationship with the leader of the party in power is one of the most intriguing parts of their role, perhaps because it largely plays out behind closed doors.
But what really goes on during their weekly audience?
