I must say I have enjoyed being back on the royal beat and it has been an
eventful week – as well as a thrilling one for me personally, since I managed to
have a close encounter with Hollywood royalty at an event the Queen was
hosting at Clarence House – but more on that later.
In the meantime, it’s the King’s 77th birthday today, and he and Camilla have
been celebrating with a day out in Wales.
As they were greeted by crowds of well-wishers outside Cyfarthfa Castle – where they attended a reception to mark both its 200th anniversary and His Majesty’s
big day, in the presence of Welsh stars such as Ruth Jones and Julien Macdonald – it occurred to me what a good year this has been for the King. Indeed there is even a case to be made that his 77th year has been his finest as a royal. Here’s why…
