I would support a temporary sabbatical from King Charles
We don't expect him to be superhuman, Andrea urges
Hi Royal Clubbers, I'm back with my weekly column.
Did you catch my first newsletter last week about bumping into a Middleton in the Caribbean?
Today, though, I wanted to focus on King Charles as seeing him a bit more these past few days got me thinking.
"The King is the happiest he has ever been." Those were the words told to me, and my A Right Royal Podcast co-stars Emmy Griffiths and royal editor Emily Nash, by author Robert Hardman just weeks before Charles' cancer diagnosis shocked the world.
Of course, he was at his happiest up until a few months ago. He was finally undertaking the role he had been trained to do for decades, the coronation had come and gone (and what a show), and of course, 2023 was ending with a lot less drama than it started with (who can forget Spare).
But, even for Charles, life can change in the blink of an eye, when you least expect it, when you feel at your happiest.
Seeing King Charles greet UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for their usual audience on Wednesday made me sad, and I'll tell you why.
