Sensational fashion, dazzling jewels and a setting steeped in 1000 years of history ensured that all eyes were on Windsor Castle for this week’s State Visit by President Emmanuel Macron of France.
The King and Queen and Prince and Princess of Wales played their diplomatic roles with aplomb, the sun blazed overhead and the President beamed from ear to ear throughout.
I was lucky enough to be inside the castle to cover most of Tuesday’s events and have to say, I enjoyed it even more than previous visits I’ve covered at Buckingham Palace.
Being away from the hectic pace of central London, with its traffic and noise, brought proceedings into sharper focus in some ways.
