Harry's Angolan trip intrigued me
The Royal Editor decodes the Duke's foreign assignment this week
Hi everyone, it’s Emily.
What a difference a month or so makes. Six weeks ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stunned royal watchers by sharing a video of themselves dancing and twerking in a hospital delivery room ahead of the birth of Princess Lilibet.
The clip, shared to mark their daughter’s fourth birthday, was met with raised eyebrows within royal circles, but supporters of the couple welcomed the glimpse into their private lives, with some praising their “authenticity”.
But while the viral clip did wonders for Meghan’s new Instagram account, driving up her social media following by around 700,000, it led some observers to question what Harry was doing with his time as his wife continued to roll out her new business venture.
So it was intriguing to see the Duke pop up unannounced in Angola this week, reminding the world of his more serious side by making a symbolic walk through a cleared minefield to highlight the work of the HALO Trust.
The timing of the trip was particularly interesting, given a meeting that took place in London this week – more on which later.
