Alex and Andrea at Windsor Castle checking out the decorations

Hi Royal Clubbers,

Kensington Palace isn’t the only royal residence that’s gotten into the holiday spirit. As you might have seen on our Instagram the other day, Christmas has arrived at Windsor Castle – and we got a first look at the spectacular decorations before they opened to the public.

Earlier this week, Andrea and I (Alex, here) hopped on a train to Windsor for a merry morning at the castle. But the excitement began before we even stepped inside. While waiting by security, we spotted Lady Sarah Chatto, Princess Margaret’s daughter, driving in. The royal sighting was the perfect start to a morning that promised to be unforgettable.

It had been over a decade since I last visited the castle, but needless to say, this visit was nothing like the one I did whilst studying abroad 13 years ago. Myself and Andrea were given a personal tour of the grand Christmas decorations in the Crimson Drawing Room and St George’s Hall. Walking down the hall, nearly empty and aglow with decorations, felt like stepping into a scene from a holiday movie.

After taking in the festive splendor of the room and hall, I had the chance to speak with Sally, the curator, about this year’s trees and decorations, plus whether the King reviews the plans beforehand. Watch the video below for the exclusive interview.

The Christmas decorations at Windsor Castle will be up through January 5, and visitors who are receiving Universal Credit and other named benefits can purchase tickets for £1.

Oh, and before I sign off for the week, here is a fun fact I learned while at the castle: St George’s Hall has motorized blinds that can be controlled with a remote… who knew the castle was so modern?!
