Robert Hardman delves into the King’s loving relationship with his grandchildren in his new book

Hello Royal Clubbers,

It’s been quite the week here with royal health concerns and it feels like a month has passed since we recorded a Right Royal Podcast episode on the Danish Accession back on Monday!

With the news about the Princess of Wales undergoing surgery and the King also facing hospital treatment, there has been a lot of reporting to do. I wrote about it all in my Wednesday newsletter in case you missed it.

Somewhere in the middle of it all, we recorded another podcast episode, this time with Robert Hardman, whose brilliant new book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story has also been in the headlines.

Among the new details he shares are poignant insights into Queen Elizabeth II’s final hours - how King Charles was at the wheel of a Land Rover rushing to her bedside when he was addressed as “Your Majesty” for the first time and how the late Queen left sealed letters to her heir and her private secretary Sir Edward Young in her final red box.

Robert, who has been covering the royal family since 1992, also witnessed rehearsals for the historic Coronation ceremony, and takes readers behind the scenes at Westminster Abbey and in the ballroom at Buckingham Palace.

As promised, I wanted to share my takeaways from the book and our conversation, which you can listen to in full here.

The King and William have a warm relationship - and the King works out!
