Decoding the double health drama
Emily explains how today's shock announcements signal a new approach from the royal family
Hello Royal Clubbers,
Just when we thought we were settling into a normal royal timetable, we’ve been hit with the news that both the Princess of Wales and the King are undergoing hospital treatment.
As I write, I’m a few minutes walk from The London Clinic, the private hospital in Marylebone, central London, where Princess Kate is recovering from abdominal surgery and where she is expected to remain for the next 10-14 days.
Before we even had time to process the news of her operation and the long period of recovery she’s facing – she’s not expected to be back on duty before Easter – Buckingham Palace added to the royal health drama by announcing that King Charles will undergo a procedure in hospital next week.
Unusually for the Palace, they have specified that he’s having treatment for a benign enlarged prostate because His Majesty was apparently “very keen” to share details of his diagnosis to encourage other men to get checked.
There’s a lot to say about both their cases but, first of all, I have to admit this has taken us all by surprise.
