And the winner is…
In yesterday’s poll I asked if you liked rewearing outfits – and 97 per cent of you do! You’re in good company as so do the royals. Princess Anne’s Barbie-inspired outfit, which she wore to the BAFTAs in 1984 and again 15 years later, is my personal favourite example of this royal trend.
Poll of the day
As you will have read, a very (very) bizarre souvenir from Queen Elizabeth’s wedding is going up for auction if you fancy a slice…
Sometimes royal news really intrigues me, and I have to say, reading that a preserved piece of wedding cake from Queen Elizabeth’s 1947 wedding still exists is quite the story.
More importantly – who is bidding for this, and what do you do with it? Cake goes off so quickly! Also, the cake slice won’t look as appetising as it did back then – then again, would I buy a slice of Harry Styles’ (future) wedding cake? Perhaps!
Your say…
Yesterday, Millie revealed that 76 per cent of Royal Clubbers approved of Camilla’s wedding dress when the Queen married King Charles in 2005.
Millie then rounded up some more unusual royal wedding dress choices and added a further poll question: Choose your favourite unconventional wedding dress. The options were Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, Princess Anne, Beatrice Borromeo, Princess Charlene and Princess Beatrice.
The winner was Princess Beatrice, with 51 per cent of voters favouring her dress, and Beatrice Borromeo came second with 23 per cent.
If you haven’t seen Princess Beatrice’s unconventional 2020 wedding dress, here’s a reminder (to see all five, you will need to read the article here). The gown originally belonged to the late Queen and was designed by Norman Hartnell. It wasn’t made as a wedding dress, which makes it rather unusual, and it featured some sparkly silver detailing – but its main significance lies in its ties to Beatrice’s grandmother.
A few Royal Clubbers expanded on their vote for Beatrice in the comments. One reason given was the involvement of the late Queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly, in its creation, along with other connections to the Queen – with Michelle calling it a “sophisticated fitting”.
However, there were a few fashion suggestions, with Anne saying she would have preferred “slim, wrist-grazing sleeves to puff sleeves.” I do think the puff sleeves added a level of drama to the dress, though…
Beatrice Borromeo’s wedding dress came a close second in the vote – the Italian royal opted for a boho-chic look in a pale pink gown designed by Maison Valentino.
Commenters praised Queen Camilla’s (two) wedding dresses – which wasn’t included in the new poll but received plentiful praise in the previous poll. Anne admired that the dress was “appropriate” and “elegant,” including her headwear.
I didn’t realise we had such a bunch of fashion critics subscribed… and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the comments. Do you agree with the poll results? Let me know!
Video of the day
Queen Camilla was out and about today at the National Harvest Festival service, looking very seasonal in a deep green shade.
She looked in good spirits and seems to be getting into the swing of the autumnal season – do you have any autumn activities you enjoy? Let me know in the comments…
