The Princess Royal is one of the most popular members of the royal family, and as she prepares to turn 75 on August 15, the birthday tributes are about to start rolling in.
Make no mistake, she does not relish the attention and will be spending her big day off the West Coast of Scotland, enjoying her annual sailing holiday with husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, rather than attending a lavish birthday party.
But I, for one, will be reading all the profiles with relish this weekend, because Princess Anne is a truly fascinating character.
Over the years I’ve been a royal editor, I’ve been lucky enough to witness her at work up close a handful of times (she prefers to carry out her engagements away from the media spotlight) and she is incredibly impressive. Ahead of her big day on August 15, I’ve spoken to some of those who know her well – you can read more later tonight over on the Hello! website but, in the meantime, I wanted to share these seven things I’ve learnt about Princess Anne along the way…
