With all that being said, I’m not here to talk about my fave Hallmark movies (though if you love them as much as I do, please let me know in the comments), I’m here to talk royals. So I thought I’d combine my love of a festive cozy movie with the Princess of Wales’ holiday wardrobe. Honestly, there are a lot of similarities.

Think about it – in a Hallmark movie, the main character usually wears a lot of red, plenty of green, cozy sweaters and a wow-worthy showstopper dress at the end. Do you know who else loves all of the above? Our beloved Catherine.

I reached out to fashion stylist Jennifer Michalski-Bray, who has worked with a whole host of red carpet starlets, and she told me the ultimate reason why the Princess of Wales masters autumnal dressing: “Catherine nails tonal layering, and nothing shouts, everything whispers.”

What would Jennifer style her in now the temperature has started to drop in the UK? “If I were styling Catherine, I’d dial up texture and depth. I’d opt for a chocolate-brown column coat with a statement cinched belt – maybe even a wide corset waist belt that I’ve seen all over the runways this season. Additionally, jewel-toned velvet is always a win in the autumn and there’s a lot of great options out there. Lastly, I love a slouchy, buccaneer stacked-heel boot. Bonus points for a sleek (vegan) leather midi or a tailored cape – still classic Catherine, just with a richer autumn glow.”

Queen Mary of Denmark and the Princess of Wales not only get along famously – their wardrobes are just as in sync as their royal roles. Both women favour timeless silhouettes, elegant tailoring, and classic prints, and they even have a shared love of the same brands – one of which is ME+EM.

In fact, this brand has been a talking point as Queen Mary of Denmark has worn it not once but twice this past week. The 55-year-old was pictured looking stunning in a floor-length polka dot gown by ME+EM, worn for a glamorous reception aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

She’s currently sailing on a four-day summer cruise with King Frederik, visiting several Danish municipalities along the coast. She rewore one of her much loved ME+EM dresses to board the yacht, as pictured below.

And so today I’ve decided to do a deep dive into the British brand (that’s available to shop across the pond too) and establish why the royals love it so much.

What’s so special about ME+EM? Well, its ethos is “intelligent style for intelligent women,” championed by its founder Clare Hornby. The brand is all about celebrating women, focusing in on functional details (say hello to pockets and drawstrings), and a “wear-forever” ethos that blends seamlessly with royal sensibilities.

It was the first luxury brand in the UK that disrupted the market – and the royals have been on board from its inception in 2009. Catherine has a pink dress from ME+EM that she’s worn on more than one occasion – and even her mother borrowed the dress to attend Royal Ascot in 2022.

The ME+EM colour-block silk shirt dress isn’t The Princess of Wales’ only item, Kate also owns several Breton striped tops from the brand – simple, chic and endlessly wearable.

I’m a sucker for a glam jacket, one that can instantly elevate jeans and a T-shirt. I could imagine Catherine wearing this gold jacket, possibly with a pair of toffee-coloured smart wide-leg trousers.

The blouse of dreams

Taking the staple white shirt to new sartorial heights, this piece is intelligently designed with a floral embroidered motif down the sleeves for a feminine lift. It has Catherine’s name on it, don’t you think?

The bag of dreams

This ME+EM bag screams royal style to me. It is almost reminiscent of Catherine’s much-loved DeMellier bag. This bag is ‘quiet luxury’ and it can be worn as a crossbody or shoulder bag thanks to the adjustable strap.

There are few summer traditions as quintessentially British as strawberries and cream, Pimm’s on the lawn, cries of “C’mon Andy” (or should that now be ‘Jack’?!) – and the Princess of Wales making a flawless appearance in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.

As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the Princess of Wales traditionally presents the trophies to the winners of the men's and women's finals, so is expected to attend the 2025 championship – she even made the effort last year during cancer treatment, with the ceremony marking her second major public appearance of 2024.

With that in mind, I thought today would be a great opportunity to predict what the Princess of Wales might wear to watch one of her favourite sports.

Royal Ascot is just over a week away and let’s face it, no one quite nails the equine brief like the Princess of Wales. From her first appearance in 2016 to her most recent outings, Catherine has turned the famous British racecourse into her own personal runway.

Ascot style is famously traditional (read: strict dress code, hats compulsory, no shortcuts allowed), but Princess Kate manages to keep things fresh, feminine, and oh-so-elegant every single time.

Her outfits strike that sweet spot between timeless and trend-aware, and she always comes with just the right amount of royal polish.

Let’s rewind to her debut in 2016 shall we? She wore a dreamy white lace Dolce & Gabbana number with a Jane Taylor hat perched just so. It was romantic, demure and very “new duchess” at the time.

In 2017, she stayed with the lace theme (this time McQueen), and some would say the outfits were nearly identical.

Fast forward to 2019, and we saw what might be peak Ascot Catherine: a cornflower blue Elie Saab blouse and skirt combo with intricate embroidery and a dramatic Philip Treacy hat. It was floaty, fairytale-like, and had just the right amount of fashion edge. For many royal watchers, it’s still the Ascot look to beat.

What stood out? Her growing confidence in accessorising – her hat was bolder, her clutch a little more modern. You could feel her style was evolving.

Samantha said: “If Catherine goes to Ascot this year (fingers crossed!), I’d expect her to stick with her elegant, classic style. She does wear a lot of repeats lately, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she chooses something she’s worn before – a safe and sustainable choice she seems to favour this year.

The 53-year-old has been very busy indeed. The King and Queen of Denmark have been on a State visit to France and I have been obsessed with all of her fashion choices. We’ve had structured coats, chic pant suits, and a statement floral maxi skirt that’s going to live rent-free in my head for the foreseeable future.

Day 1: The wow-worthy floral maxi

Queen Mary always shines at formal events with her exquisite evening wear. For the first State Banquet of the trip she looked regal yet fashion-forward. I can picture fashionista Carrie Bradshaw wearing an outfit like this on an episode of And Just Like That. It’s so refreshing to see the royal taking fashion risks in this Lasse Spangenberg floral maxi skirt with a CLEA embroidered cream shirt in cream.

To accessorise, she opted for an Anya Hindmarch clutch, a pair of Gianvito Rossi beige satin heels (available in the UK / US) and a pair of divine topaz and diamond earrings.

Day 1: The cream suit of dreams

For day one, Mary wore a Dior 30 Montaigne Bar Single-Breasted Wool and Silk Jacket with the matching skirt. From well-chosen accessories to perfectly tailored fits, every aspect of Queen Mary’s look is carefully curated. She is known for impeccable styling—whether it’s pairing a statement belt with a simple dress or adding a brooch to enhance an outfit. For this particular look she went for a new Dior vintage brooch from the 1964 collection.

As HELLO!’s resident shopping expert, it’s only right that I discuss the Meghan Effect. It may have divided opinion but Meghan’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, was incontestably a feast for the eyes.

Did I want to wear cream before watching that show? No, not particularly.

1. Crazy for cream

I don’t have much cream in my wardrobe, I’ll be honest. I’m too clumsy and I know I’ll spill coffee/balsamic vinegar/wine (delete as applicable) down myself as soon as I wear cream. But if Meghan can chop juicy-looking cherry tomatoes wearing cream in the kitchen, what am I so afraid of? My favourite outfit had to be in episode two where Meghan is joined by her friend Mindy Kaling. Like Mindy, I too was impressed with the ensemble and stunned to know her pants were from Zara. In the series we see three very chic aprons, and now I’m seriously tempted to ditch my bright yellow one for a more muted version. She really has influenced me in the most bizarre ways.

I love the idea of having guests over and treating them to a wooden basket packed with popcorn and bath salts (though if they’re looking to take a bath, they might need to give me a little heads-up so I can put the hot water on first).

5. Terracotta for the win

Much like cream, I’ve never ever wanted to wear terracotta before, but somehow Meghan just makes it look so damn luxurious. We spot her wearing two different terracotta outfits throughout the series, and well, now I’m suddenly wanting something for my own closet.

Final verdict

I really enjoyed seeing all the fashion and homeware moments on With Love, Meghan. Lots of the items she wore in the show have sold out, including the jewellery and her kitchen essentials which just proves that the Meghan Effect is still a thing, even without royal engagements and red carpet appearances. Happy New Year, Royal Shoppers, it’s Leanne here! I hope you had a fantastic time celebrating and are now ready to make memories in 2025. This year, I’m intent on sticking to my fitness goals and have decided I need some sportswear to do so (the classic excuse of a shopaholic), which is why I’m getting inspiration from the Princess of Wales and her collection of gym clothes.

It’s clear to see that the Princess of Wales loves sport – aside from being a spectator, she likes to get involved too.

Over the years we’ve seen her confidently play tennis; hit the slopes; take to the running track; challenge husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry to a sprint race; and try her hand at hockey, football and numerous other sports.

She is also a dab hand on the water too, as she proved in a rowing competition back in 2017.

But, of course, when it comes to working out you need to have the right activewear, as the 42-year-old royal exemplifies.

From Sweaty Betty and Lululemon, to stylish outerwear and uber chic tennis skirts, I am certainly taking a leaf out of Catherine’s activewear style book for 2025.

A love of Lululemon

Catherine is a big fan of Lululemon sportswear, including the Lululemon Chargefeel workout shoe – a pair that I personally rate. The high-performance trainer (a newer version is available now btw – the Chargefeel 2, $148 / £84) is designed for an array of activities, including running, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), hiking, and even lifting.

It’s not the first time Catherine has worn Lululemon – we also saw her wearing a jacket from the brand too, back in Londonderry for an event in 2021.

The Define Jacket, $118 / £108, is a fan favourite – and celebrities love it too. The brand say this jacket has a “feel-good fit that can do it all” whether you’re “up for an adventure or ready for downtime.”

As a TikTok fan, I now know the Define jacket is huge on the social networking site. A lot of TikTokers rave about the jacket’s features, including a secret hair tie on the zip. Genius. You’ve got secure front pockets, thumbholes on the sleeves and ‘Cuffins’ (an inbuilt mitten to keep your hands warm on cold days). It’s available in various different colours at Lululemon for $118.

Oh so comfortable in Sweaty Betty

Sweaty Betty is hugely popular in the UK so it’s no surprise that the Princess of Wales has been pictured wearing the brand over the years. She once wore a pair of Sweaty Betty x New Balance running shoes that were part of a special limited-edition collaboration.

She also loves the Sweaty Betty yoga pants, and who can resist a pair of soft easy to wear comfortable pants perfect for the gym or for the school run?

Another Sweaty Betty favourite in her workout collection? The Athlete Hooded Long Sleeve Top, $52 / £35 in Oxford Blue which she wore to play rugby at Twickenham Stadium. She met England players, coaches and referees and took part in a training session on the pitch.

The top is made from a technical fabric that is lightweight, breathable and sweat-wicking.

Tennis whites time! Who remembers when Catherine played with Roger Federer wearing her tennis whites?

She wore a tennis skirt from a collaboration between Stella McCartney and Adidas, which she teamed with a pair of Babolat trainers.

Just do it in Nike

Catherine debuted a new pair of running shoes on a visit to the Lawn Tennis Association wearing a casual but cool sporty ensemble.

Her new trainers, the Nike Air VaporMax FlyKnit style, $173 / £167, in white and grey, include innovative tech through the perforated sockliner and apparently make you feel like walking on air.

Awesome in Adidas

Over the years Catherine has often been spotted wearing Adidas sportswear, especially trainers, which we can spot a mile off thanks to Adidas’ signature three-stripe motif.

In 2012, Duchess Catherine sported a pair of Adidas Ignition 2 trainers to meet with Great Britain’s hockey team at London’s Olympic Park.

However, she has also sported the design on walks through Edinburgh’s Hollyrood Park.

A stylish skier

The royals love a ski trip! For the family Christmas card in 2016, Catherine and William took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to the slopes in the French Alps. It was reported at the time Catherine’s ski outfit was from E and O, although the brand has since been bought by a larger conglomerate.

Catherine has a penchant for white and red skiwear, whether it's a combination of both colours, or mix and match.

And to go with the ski attire, Catherine turned to Sorel boots to keep her feet warm when not booted up in her skis.

In the past, she’s worn the 1964 Pac2 snow boots, £180 / £130, with the contrast shearling detail, and the Tivoli boots, $150, which are made from waterproof suede and leather. They feature a grippy outsole that’s perfect for slippery sidewalks and keeping your toes warm while on the go thanks to their micro-fleece lining.

The verdict

I think it’s clear from these photos that Catherine loves to be active. In fact, former rugby player Mike Tindall, who is married to Prince William's cousin Zara, once described her as an “engine”, claiming his dream rugby team would involve Catherine on one wing “because she loves running, she can run all day!”

As you can see, Catherine isn’t loyal to one particular sportswear brand and I love that about her. She opts for relatively popular brands, mixed with smaller less-known fitness brands. She keeps her looks simple, and dresses for the activity she’s about to do, often mirroring the people she’s exercising with on the day. I would love a gym session with Catherine, but I know she’d wipe the floor with me.

My view

My verdict

If you’re looking for a royal saving, there are so many items on this list that are worth looking into. I’m a big fan of Monica Vinader and this is a brand that rarely goes on sale. I love Catherine’s green onyx earrings and Duchess of Edinburgh’s friendship bracelet, and with a saving of up to 50% you just can’t go wrong.

If you’re in the market for wellness tech, you’ve got the Fitbit, the Oura ring and the Whoop watch to pick from this list. If I had to choose out of the three, I’d go for the Oura ring.
